Last month, Twin Cities indie-pop quartet Hippo Campus returned with their fourth LP, Flood, via Sylvan Esso’s Psychic Hotline label. The collection of 13 songs felt like a noticeable evolution for the band both lyrically and musically, with elements of folk, electronic, and even jazz seeping into their established alt-pop sound. “All we can hope for is that our musical evolutions reflect our personal evolutions,” the band’s Nathan Stocker explained to us upon Flood’s release. “We’ve all done a bit of growing up and come to grips with harsh realities, and through that growth, we’ve embraced the beauty found on the other side.”

Following the album’s release, the band joins us for a new episode of FLOOD FM’s “Hacked,” wherein they take us under the hood to reveal what they’ve had on repeat lately that may have influenced the record’s sound. From songwriting greats like Frank Sinatra and Shane MacGowan to A$AP Rocky collaborator Jessica Pratt to hometown heroes Hotline TNT, hear the full playlist every day through Friday, October 4, at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. PT only on FLOOD FM.
