Austin’s hallmark fall event returned for another year in sprawling Zilker Park on the banks of the Colorado River. While Austin City Limits lands on the calendar in the fall, the long hours spent in the intense sun and heat could have convinced many that we were still in the middle of summer. With thick humidity and temperatures in the mid-90s, attendees consumed large amounts of beverages and sought shade where they could, as the symbolic large oak tree in the center of the park offered refuge for fans.
Despite the feverish heat, thousands of people flooded the park to catch three days of music and festivities. Breakout superstar Chappell Roan was undoubtedly the largest draw of the weekend. As with Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands over the last few months, Roan was a classic early booking that blew up meteorically by the time the fest came around, prompting organizers to move her from a midday slot on Saturday to the main stage on Sunday right before Tyler, the Creator. Tyler and Dua Lipa’s sets also had massive attendance, with the Austin festival being the latter’s only US dates on the 2024 calendar.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite acts and moments from weekend one of ACL 2024.
