LA native Mara Connor has sharpened her political sword on new single “American Dream,” cooking up a timely thriller that takes aim at those who prey on the vulnerable. The jangling folk-rock cut shimmers with organ melodies and drum clicks that explode like fireworks. Connor uses the track to spotlight the struggles of working-class folks everywhere, singing of Rosie who works doubles at the diner and Billy who runs a bar and can’t help but slip some booze into his coffee as he struggles to get back to sobriety. These slice-of-life fictions come alive thanks to Connor’s prose-like lyrics.
“This is a reminder of what’s at stake in this upcoming election: human decency, fundamental rights, and democracy itself,” Connor shares. “Here’s hoping for a brighter future that includes everyone.”
