Founded in 2021 by the community-based organization Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, Making Memories Festival has become an annual event in LA serving to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and circulate resources for care for the disease and other forms of dementia. The day-long bash has garnered attention for its musical guests over the years, which in the past have included Los Lobos and Ozomatli. Now in its fourth year, White Denim will take the stage on November 9 at LA State Historical Park, with local groups Jackie Mendez & the Steady 45’s, Boogaloo Assassins, Circle the Earth, and Monalisa joining them over the course of the afternoon.
“Alzheimer’s disease is the second leading cause of death in Los Angeles County,” shared president/CEO of Alzheimer’s Los Angeles Heather Cooper Ortner. “There are approximately 190,000 people living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia in our community today, and it’s expected that number will triple by 2060. Now is the time to conquer the stigma that still surrounds this disease and ensure that everyone has access to linguistically and culturally appropriate care.”
This year’s event was curated and co-produced by NextFest. It kicks off at 12:30 p.m. local time, with tickets benefiting Alzheimer’s Los Angeles costing $25 a piece. Additionally, food trucks from local spots Aguas Compita, TK Burgers, and Creamy Boys Ice Cream will be on site. Find more info on the event here.
