At the end of May, psych dream-pop duo Beach House revealed details about their fifth full-length album Depression Cherry along with a very cryptic annotated track list for the album. Today, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scully slyly released their upcoming LP’s highly anticipated first single “Sparks,” premiering it on the Spanish radio station RTVE (you can start hearing the track right at the thirty-minute mark).
In their official announcement about Depression Cherry, the band stated that “this record shows a return to simplicity, with songs structured around a melody and a few instruments, with live drums playing a far lesser role.” “Sparks” doesn’t really fall under that stripped away category—what with its mountains of fuzzed-out guitar riffs, droning synth lines, and infinite vocal layers—but it does signal a strong return for the group’s delicate yet textured sound.
