Austin psych-rockers Strange Lot have been gathering momentum over the past decade, as a series of increasingly realized EPs and touring slots with the likes of The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Brian Jonestown Massacre led up to a final EP released at the dawn of COVID. Now, they’re back in action with a proper debut album on the way that’s being produced by The Black Angels’ Alex Maas—the perfect creative mind to oversee the band’s droning psychedelic sound that taps into the Texas capital’s tradition of darkly droning garage rock.

As they’re currently on the road with fellow spaced-out neo-psych troupe Boogarins, Strange Lot will soon be sharing the stage with their friends in The Black Angels on the opening night of Austin’s Levitation fest (which just so happens to be Halloween). In the meantime, the band filmed a truncated version of their set list for “FLOOD Sessions,” which sees the quartet jamming through “All I Know,” “Always Alone,” and “5 AM,” all unreleased songs from their upcoming debut album. Check it out below, and grab tickets to their Levitation set here.
