Panda Bear, the project of Animal Collective member Noah Lennox, comes riding in on a golden stallion with a heap of good news! First, PB will be releasing a new solo album called Sinister Grift on February 28 via Domino. Second, the record’s lead single “Defense” features Cindy Lee and is out now. Third, Da Bear will be hitting the road with Toro y Moi in 2025 on what probably should’ve been called the “Bear and Bull” tour. Chicago would’ve loved that!

The album’s first single is a shuffling rock tune that lands somewhere between what Cindy Lee normally does and what Panda normally does. In that sense, it’s what you might call an IC (ideal collaboration—industry speak, keep up!). The whole thing plods along at a delightfully slow pace, allowing us to imagine what a chopped ’n’ screwed Panda Bear record might sound like. Chopstars, you’re on the clock!

Lennox recorded the album at his Estudio Campo in Lisbon, Portugal and co-produced it with his Animal Collective bandmate Josh Dibb (that’s Deakin for those of you who know AnCo well enough to know who Deakin is, but not well enough to identify him by his legal name). Check out “Defense” and view the aforementioned tour dates below, and pre-order Sinister Grift here.
