L’Espiral, an alt-pop duo consisting of vocalist Zoë Bleu and producer Reggie Debris, have unveiled their first official single, “Erotes,” following the release of their cover of Sinéad O’Connor’s “Troy.” The slow-burning ballad builds around an acoustic guitar melody and powerful vocals from Bleu, who sings of fighting with someone unwilling to help themself. “I can’t forget his poker face,” the singer laments. When the song reaches its peak, blasting horns and doo-wop piano chords provide a delightful left turn.
Regarding the track, Bleu explained: “‘Erotes’ is about being in a toxic relationship with someone who is more invested in their relationship with drugs than their relationship with you. It is a song about battling your partner’s demons whilst also trying not to drown in the darkness of your own shadows, all the while struggling to keep the ship of your love from sinking.”
