One of the most appealing elements of Christopher Owens’ musical repertoire has always been his preternatural ability to captivate a room. I’ve watched it happen in person a few times now. But check out just how eerily sedate this rooftop crowd is during a pleasantly recorded live session at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, as Owens enchants them all with the deeply wounded, post-’90s-Clapton vibes of “I Just Can’t Live Without You (But I’m Still Alive)” from his just-released A New Testament. Granted, it’s a very fine performance. Maybe throw on those tortoise-shell BluBlockers, bring a cup of coffee out to the porch, and watch it below.
