Nitefire have been cranking out singles as far back as 2019, with this month marking the release of their third EP compiling these tracks. Ameripop! is pure garage-rock revival reveling in the early-aughts era of indie, when Britpop and American power-pop gave way to groups like Razorlight and Hot Hot Heat. “Its lyrical groundwork was threaded from the tribulations of love in Los Angeles,” the band shared upon its release on November 1. “Love for place, love for others, love for self, love for passions. It is an American expression of your dying twenties in a city so divine.”
Recently the band performed the EP’s second track, “I’m in Love with Myself,” for a “Neighborhoods” session in their hometown of LA. Set up in band member Nico Geyer’s backyard, where the four-piece has gained traction playing house shows, the video captures their unique balance of passion and apathy as the tight instrumental trio fills the foreground, and Geyer cooly recites the song’s lyrics on a stoop behind them. “‘I’m in Love with Myself’ is about loving everything for the wrong reason,” the band shares.
