Formed while they were USC students back in 2013, MUNA is renowned as one of Los Angeles' finest bands, but lead singer Katie Gavin's roots are based in the Chicago suburbs of Winnetka, Illinois, where she attended high school and developed her musical ambitions. Gavin's performing journey came full circle this past week, as she wrapped up the final date of her tour supporting her solo debut album What a Relief in her hometown, along with a revolving band she referred to as “a parade of people I love," including two of her childhood violin instructors.
“It just feels meaningful to end this tour in the city where I’m from,” she revealed as she kicked off the show at Thalia Hall. “Well," she clarified, "I’m from the suburbs.”
Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter Nana Adjoa opened the evening, and also joined Gavin throughout her set, which included all of the tracks from What a Relief and the unreleased "She Gives Me Feeling."
