Dean Wareham (ever hear of Galaxie 500, nerd?) has announced that he’ll be dropping his first solo record in four years, titled That’s the Price of Loving Me, on March 28 via Carpark Records. If that’s not exciting enough, he recruited the MF’ing legend Kramer to produce the joint. Hell yeah. First single “You Were the Ones I Had to Betray” whets the whistle, showcasing what these two mad geniuses have been cooking up in the proverbial kitchen. Country-tinged string suites and guitar picking back Wareham as he sings: “Together we roam into the haze.” Sounds nice.

Regarding the track, Wareham said: “I wrote this at the last minute, thinking about how love and friendship seem to actually invite betrayal. I didn’t really anticipate where the song would end up musically; it was transformed when Gabe Noel added the cello arrangement in the studio.”

The accompanying video, which you can view below, was inspired by Mary Poppins. Pre-order That’s the Price of Loving Me here. Dean also announced some tour dates, which you can peep beneath the video.
