Woof, woof. You hear that? The boys in PUP are back with a new single, “Paranoid,” before they hit the road tomorrow for an arena tour with Sum 41. The band’s first new song in two years is a thrashy thriller with aggressive, shit-talking vocals from Stefan Babcock. Sing-alongs, punk riffs, nasty breakdowns—this PUP-py has got it all.
“My favorite part of this song is the breakdown 1:45 in,” Babcock said of the new single. “It’s the heaviest moment in the song, [drummer Zack Mykula and guitarist Steve Sladkowski] are going so hard, I’m yelling about all this sad stuff that’s going on with me, and [Nestor Chumak] is just playing the melody from ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ on the bass. It cracks me up every time I hear it. So fucking funny. It’s a very PUP moment.”
