Undergoing something of a transformation in the midst of releasing a series of EPs over recent years, Nashville’s New Translations are finally ready to drop their debut record, with Vacation slotted for release on February 14 via Warner and War Buddha Records. Before then we’ve gotten a flurry of enticing singles—including the recent “Voided Velvet,” which features Michigander—that together define the glossy, new wave-y feel they’re going for on this upcoming release.
As we’re just about two weeks out from Vacation’s Valentine’s Day release date, the band set up along the banks of the Cumberland River in their Tennessee hometown to perform a “Neighborhoods” set consisting of a pair of other recent singles: “Rat People” and “Post Hang.” The glum weather and winter color palette backing their upbeat tunes makes for a stark contrast, though the resulting sounds and images are both compelling.
Check it out below, and expect to see New Translations on the road in February (with Arts Fishing Club) and May (with Rainbow Kitten Surprise), while those of you in Nashville can catch their release show at The Blue Room on February 22. Info and tickets for all dates can be found here.
