Are we alone in the universe? Is there anyone, anything, out there? Are minivans the best place to store your alien crayon drawings? These are a few of the many questions presented in the mysterious, dreamlike new video for DOOMSQUAD‘s “Apocalypso.”
Comprised of a trio of siblings—Trevor, Jaclyn, and Allie Blumas—DOOMSQUAD is an experimental dance group from Toronto who utilize world music, repetition, and psychedelic flourishes to craft their brand of rhythmic trance tunes. In “Apocalypso,” singer Trevor shout-sings in the style of Animal Collective‘s Avey Tare along to grooving percussion and jangly guitar strikes. The song fades with a repeated refrain—the inverse of Harry Belafonte’s “Banana Boat Song”—”Daylight’s comin’ / And I don’t wanna go home.”
Check out the video below, wherein a misfit kid (or alien?) heads to the International UFO museum of Roswell, New Mexico, makes some alien cookies, and tries to avoid the white jumpsuits.
“Apocalypso” is part of DOOMSQUAD’s Pageantry Suite EP, a collaborative art project with Toronto visual artist & filmmaker Chris Boni, who created the video. Check out the band’s fall tour dates and the track list for Pageantry Suite below.
