Although still a teenager, Arkansas-based songwriter Waylon Wyatt is already a veteran when it comes to translating a hard day’s work at the construction site into moving country balladry, as proven on his debut EP Til the Sun Goes Down. Barely three months old, the collection of songs has already become a popular title on streaming, with Wyatt hitting the road next month to perform them live following a sold-out hometown release show, as well as past tours with Dwight Yoakam and Dylan Gossett. Later this year he’ll even make his festival debut at both Stagecoach, Bourbon & Beyond, and Americana Fest.
For now, Wyatt is back home in Arkansas where he performed a “Neighborhoods” set of his EP closer “O.D.” on a farm in the northwestern city of Fort Smith. Strumming through the track on acoustic guitar, the rustic surrounding is a fitting backdrop for the song’s instrumental twang and lyrical longing. “My pops has a good friend of his that hooked me up with this spot to shoot my song ‘O.D.,’” he shares of the setting. “What I love most about this song is the lyrics, which convey how love can be like a drug to someone.”
