Last month, Sunny War released her latest collection of contemporary-folk ballads in the form of Armageddon in a Summer Dress—a blend of familiar Americana stylings from the Tennessee-based songwriter, albeit with an injection of punk ethos courtesy of guest appearances from X’s John Doe and Crass’ Steve Ignorant alongside Sunny’s peers such as Valerie June, Tré Burt, and The Deslondes’ John James Tourville.

Yet rather than pulling from this new collection of tunes, for her “Neighborhoods” session, Sunny War offers up two covers: X-Ray Spex’s punk anthem “Oh Bondage Up Yours!” and The Yardbirds’ psych-rocker “You’re a Better Man Than I.” Set up in her backyard in Chattanooga in front of a shrine to Michael Jackson and/or E.T. before moving to an eerily lit stoop for the latter track, the songwriter displays her plucking skills via these acoustic takes on both tunes. Check it out below.
