Tomorrow, Chicago pop-punk trio Pet Symmetry reveal their fourth album and celebration of all things big—from “Diamonds” to “Doinks.” Big Symmetry, as you may have noticed, is an album entirely composed of songs with “Big” as the descriptor in each song title—less a weird gimmick than a term that amplifies the extreme meaning of each individual song. “Sometimes we think, ‘If given the opportunity, we would wish for things that seem fantastic—never-ending money, eternal life, a superhuman power, instant travel,” the band shared upon the release of the album single “Big Wish.” “We don’t usually stop and think about what we already have. How at one point in our lives we were wishing for that. Sometimes it’s important to check in, reflect and see if we have already gotten some of our wishes.”
Ahead of the album’s release date, Evan Weiss, Marcus Nuccio, and Erik Czaja convened in Weiss’ basement in Jefferson Park on the North Side of Chicago to perform an acoustic version of the single for “FLOOD Sessions.” The punky riffs and pounding snares may be gone, but it’s still got a big feel to it.
