DJ Haram has announced that her debut album Beside Myself is set to arrive on July 18 via Hyperdub, with its first single “Voyeur” arriving today. The track begins with ominous, screeching synth tones and drums that give the song an electrifying, brash energy. The buzz and chaos builds until Haram pulls it back, only to ratchet up the tension one more time. Haram described the song as: “the voices in my head screaming wordlessly while I’m at the center of a mosh pit on research chemicals. Someone is like, ‘You're gonna make it, boo, promise, just wait it out,’ but the future doesn’t exist in this mind state, so does that really matter?”
The album features Armand Hammer (billy woods + ELUCID), bbymutha, SHA RAY, her 700 Bliss partner Moor Mother, Dakn, and August Fanon, as well as producers El Kontessa and Kay Drizz, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, and guitarist Abdul Hakim Bilal. Regarding the list of collaborators, Haram added: “We have to start organizing outside the frame. Music is a liberation technology, a vessel of truth and resistance.”
