Drugdealer and Weyes Blood have shared a new collaborative single “Real Thing,” which was more than two years in the making and recorded across two continents. The track began as a collaboration between Drugdealer (a.k.a. Michael Collins) and Parisian producer Max Baby, who were working on a chord progression that eventually became a demo. “Immediately I realized that it was the perfect thing to show Nat [Mering, a.k.a. Weyes Blood], who I had been wanting to collaborate with again for years,” Collins shared. “After that we started working on it via multiple trips back and forth across the US, and it just became one of my favorite things we’ve ever done.”
“Real Thing” follows previous duets with Mering “Honey” from Drugdealer’s 2019 album Raw Honey and “Suddenly” from 2016’s The End of Comedy. “Since then, I’ve felt like she’s my musical family,” added Collins. “I can’t really ask for more in terms of someone who inspired me to even get to this place in my songwriting.”
The track dropped alongside an official music video directed by James Manson documenting the studio experience. Check that out below.
