As exemplified by Extreme Elvis, Andy Kaufman, and Randy Newman with his shades on, Elvis impersonators are at their most excellent when they exist in circumstances that don’t really make any sense. For that reason—and ’cause, dude, it’s Elvis singing a punk song—Oakland retro-thrashers The Atom Age have taken their new single “Wasteoid” and blasted it out of a pink Cadillac for an impersonator to groove to.

Come to think of it, though, the combination of Elvis and Cadillacs actually makes a bit more sense than you’d initially think for this track, as you can definitely hear the “Wasteoid” riff toying with The Clash’s “Brand New Cadillac”—a track has a substantial Elvis influence of its own. Take that song, add in a dash of The Fleshtones—maybe sprinkle a bit of Rollins-era Black Flag—and presto, The Atom Age.

Following the release of lead single “It’s A Mess” last month, this is the second tune from the band’s upcoming third full-length Hot Shame, for which you can preorder the LPs here and the CDs here.

Oh, and if you’re looking for an Elvis impersonator in the Bay Area—or you’re just looking to check out a very amusing website—look no further.

Hot Shame is out August 28 on Asian Man Records.
