Peretsky has shared a cinematic video for his single “I Felt a Way,” which is featured on his recently released LP It Doesn’t Get Cold in October Anymore. The black-and-white clip features slow motion images of skaters gracefully pulling off tricks while Peretsky’s meditative, ambient-leaning piano composition slowly drifts toward its completion. Lines like “Don’t be afraid” are looped over the mesmerizing piano line, giving the lyrics a mantra-like vibe.
“There is a heavy weight of intergenerational trauma-induced sorrow that plagues many of both Palestinian and Jewish heritage since the start of the continuous siege on Gaza,” the artist shared. “It’s palpable, stored at the pit of our stomach, and for me personally, it carried itself for well over a year as a dark shadow of debilitating shame towards what is said to be done in my name. I refuse to accept this talking point. Our accelerated societal collapse does not give us the time to mourn, reflect, and build bridges, and so we are forced to cope through other means.
“Mine is through song,” he continues, “in this case one of seeking a common youthful innocence that every human on this planet once had, all as a means of finding where a bridge can be built. The choice of using abstracted and slowed imagery of skateboarding evokes this for me. It’s another subculture for young freaks that I took part in as a teen, and just like experimental music, it’s a bridge. Find yours.”
