Wednesday have returned with “Pick Up That Knife,” an aptly titled track for their new LP, Bleed, which will be released on September 19 via Dead Oceans. The song begins with some post-rock-y guitars that get my spine tingling like the intro to an Explosions in the Sky track. The cymbals splash like an effortlessly perfect dive into the deep end—as gracefully depicted 45 seconds into the single’s music video.

“’Pick Up That Knife’ is a song that revolves around feelings of helplessness, when every minor inconvenience hurts double ’cause you’re close to giving up,” said the band’s Karly Hartzman. “It’s also about when our pedal steel player Xandy threw up in the moshpit during the Death Grips set at Primavera Sound in 2023. I’m glad Xandy is OK for a number of reasons. One of said reasons is that the pedal steel on this song is quite good.”

Check out the official video for “Pick Up That Knife” below, and pre-order Bleed here. Wow. I just wrote that whole post and didn’t mention MJ Lenderman’s name once. Is that bad SEO practice?
