Noise for Now announced this morning that they’ve teamed up with Abortion on Our Own Terms for a series of shows this fall that will feature live music, comedy, and more to raise money for local abortion funds. Kicking off September 22 in Nashville, songwriter Tift Merritt will host an evening of performances that include sets by Lola Kirke, morgxn, and Adia Victoria; then, on September 27, comedian Sakinah Daaz hosts Pell, Wendell Brunious and the Women of Preservation Hall, and others in New Orleans; finally, on October 19, author/comedian Joyelle Nicole Johnson will emcee a night in Brooklyn with Ron Gallo, Pom Pom Squad, Becca Mancari, and others, as well as a DJ set by MGMT.
“We’re fed up with the interference in our personal healthcare decisions by politicians who know nothing about our lives,” shared Noise for Now co-founder and Executive Director Amelia Bauer. “When faced with this kind of oppression, it is more important than ever to come together in our communities to equip ourselves with resources, stand in joyful defiance, and affirm that we save us.”
Added Abortion on Our Terms’ Creative Media Manager Lorenne Gavish: “As we all seek ways to help, and also survive this political moment, here are three things we can do: Give money to abortion funds helping people access care, spread critical information on how to have an abortion no matter where someone lives or how much money they make, and find joy in community.”
