Nashville-based songwriter Lydia Luce’s forthcoming album Mammoth is a documentation of the artist finding peace, both literally and figuratively. On the one hand, this collection of gentle folk tunes soundtracks a period of healing for the artist, whose chronic pain had prevented her from pursuing music for a period. On the other, the songs themselves serve as lullabies, of sorts, for her future child—songs born of the tranquility of downtime spent with her partner as they eagerly anticipate family life.
Having already shared a slew of singles from the release, today Luce is giving us another taste of Mammoth in the form of “Quiet,” which arrives with a live recording of the song. Filmed in the studio with the Lockeland Strings, a local collective led by Luce and her new album’s producer Jordan Lehning, the recording captures the sense of awe in Luce’s vocal performance while leaving plenty of space for the thrumming string section to swell in between lyrics.
“‘Quiet’ is about the ability to sit with someone and not have to say anything,” the songwriter shares of the new single, which she dedicates to her partner. “To be able to soak up their presence and find contentment, joy, and peace in the silence. We are about to have our first kiddo, and it’s something we’ve been trying for for the last year and a half. Everything is about to change in our house, and we are truly cherishing these final months at home, just the two of us and our dog.”
