David Byrne’s new album Who Is the Sky? is set to be released on Friday. Before that question is answered, though, he’s got one more query for us: “What Is the Reason for It?,” which he asks alongside Hayley Williams, solo superstar and singer for Paramore. On the new track, Byrne wonders about the many ways we can describe what love is without ever getting to the exact core of the emotion. David and Hayley duet, delightfully getting not that much closer to an answer than when they began. Who cares!
Regarding the song, Byrne said: “When we were finishing up the record, the producer Kid Harpoon and I were wondering, ‘Oh, maybe this song, it’s a love song, or at least it’s asking what is love, what it’s about? Why do we do this? Why do other people do it? Do we know anything about it?’”
