Uggie—Jean Dujardin’s ironically named, incredibly cute canine co-star in 2011’s The Artist—has passed away at the age of thirteen. Vulture reports (via TMZ) that he was losing a battle with prostate cancer and was put to sleep sometime last week.

In addition to The Artist, Uggie made appearances in the Will Ferrell/Zach Galifianakis political comedy The Campaign, the Robert Pattinson/Reese Witherspoon tearjerker Water for Elephants, and even appeared as a racist dog on an episode of Key & Peele. He even managed to write a memoir recounting his transition from abandoned pup to screen star.
