Over the past decade, Tobias Jesso Jr. has shifted from singer-songwriter to a writer, composer, and producer of songs for other people, working with artists like Adele, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Bon Iver, and more. Nearly 11 years after releasing his own debut album Goon, Jesso has announced that LP2 will be arriving in just eight days.
The first single from s h i n e, “I Love You,” is out now, and comes with a video starring Dakota Johnson and Riley Keough that features a live take of the song. Fancy! The track features Jesso’s pleasant vocal delivery backed by a simple piano melody before pummeling drums come in to sincerely fuck shit up over the last minute and a half or so.
According to a press release, the album was made with help from HAIM’s Danielle Haim, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, classically trained pianist Eli Teplin, GRAMMY-nominated engineer Julian Bunetta, producer Tommy King, Rosie Hamilton, and “a psychic.” Check out “I Love You” below.
