Richmond, Virginia rapper and producer Fly Anakin has recruited some of the most exciting names in indie rap for a new single entitled “Socks Over the Smoke Detector.” Quelle Chris, $ilkmoney, and Fatima all hop on the cut, which arrives just a few months after Anakin’s LP (The) Forever Dream was released in April. Both Chris and $ilkmoney appeared on the album cut “My N*gga.”
The smooth single is built around jazzy keyboard chords and relies on the chemistry of the brilliant emcees trading bars like buddies at the pub exchanging stories. Here’s one of many excellent samples: “They try to form around us to copy, n****s epoxy / Rappers be fighting over ice like we playing hockey.” Hell yeah. Rap is the best.
