Dawn Richard has returned with a new single entitled “A Flex.” The track, which is out via Merge Records, and which is, in fact, a flex, marks her return to pop music for the first time since 2023’s The Architect EP. Her last full-length was her 2024 ambient-pop collaboration with Spencer Zahn, Quiet in a World Full of Noise.

The sultry cut features a hypnotizing bass line and shuffling percussion, while distorted guitar chords give the song its texture. Richard sings on the sexed-up anthem: “He a Southern boy / With the bank rolly / That mean he got the time / To spend it on a baddie.”

Dawn said of the track: “Dipped in legacy, the kind of flex that comes from survival, culture, and craft. It signals a new album on the way, one that continues my mission of building worlds through sound, movement, and memory.”
