The Afghan Whigs are back with their first new music since 2022’s How Do You Burn? The group has released two new cover songs, taking on “Fake Like” by Poliça and “Downtown” by Still Corners. They turn the former into a shuffling rock cut with an emphatic vocal delivery from Greg Dulli, while the latter is an emotive piano-led ballad.

Regarding the covers, Dulli said: “Both of these songs were born out of soundcheck jams. Each song holds a particular resonance for me and I really felt the lyrics, so they both flowed freely and felt good to sing.”

Check out The Afghan Whigs’ versions of “Fake Like” and “Downtown” below, which are out now via Royal Cream/BMG. You can also revisit our 2022 interview with Dulli here.
