Ring, ring, ring! No, that’s not me calling—it’s Mitski phoning to let you know that she has a new song out called “Where’s My Phone?” It’s the first single from her forthcoming eighth studio album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, which is set to arrive on February 27 via Dead Oceans. The album features Mitski backed by a live band and orchestra and tells the tale of “a reclusive woman in an unkempt house.”
The video for “Where’s My Phone?” mirrors the themes of the album, as the Noel Paul–directed clip tells the story of a woman protecting herself and her sister from impending danger. It’s based on Shirley Jackson’s novel We Have Always Lived in the Castle. Check that out below, alongside a cartoon meant to accompany the video made by New Yorker cartoonist Emily Flake.
