Julia Cumming, known for her work as Sunflower Bean’s vocalist and bassist, has announced that her solo debut, Julia, will arrive on April 24 via Partisan Records. The album is led by the single “My Life,” a slow-burning vintage pop ballad which features Cumming standing strong as she croons over a delicate piano melody: “My life is mine / I sing these words for me / I sing them loud / ’Cause I’m still free / ’Cause I’m allowed.”

“This song came after a period of intense pressure,” Cumming shared, “the culmination of writing through the pandemic and the years spent in the rhythm of touring, recording, and trying to find my place within it all… Then something shifted. It was liberation, and I knew immediately it was the beginning of something new. It’s clear ‘My Life’ would open the album, because it’s the thesis. The seed that started everything.”

The accompanying intricately choreographed video was filmed in London with filmmaker Edgar Wright. Check that out below, and pre-order Julia here.
