Gorillaz’s Los Angeles takeover is in full effect. Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s iconic multimedia project played two nights at the Hollywood Palladium this week, with Albarn and a host of guests previewing their entire new album The Mountain—due out this Friday—along with a selection of their biggest hits (“Feel Good Inc.,” “Clint Eastwood,” “Rock the House”). The performances of The Mountain included appearances by album collaborators Sparks, Black Thought, Asha Puthli, IDLES’s Joe Talbot, and Kara Jackson, with the latter evening closing with a hits-packed encore featuring Pos from De La Soul, Bootie Brown, and Del the Funky Homosapien.
The LA takeover continues with the opening of their immersive audio-visual art exhibition House of Kong, running February 26 though March 19 in DTLA. Take a look at photo highlights from both nights at the Palladium below captured by Pooneh Ghana and Blair Brown, and pick up FLOOD’s deluxe 10th anniversary issue featuring cover stars Gorillaz here.
