Coming up on the two-year anniversary of their second album Staring at the Sun, Georgia-based indie rockers Hotel Fiction returned last week with a deluxe version of the LP which featured four bonus cuts: acoustic takes on the album tracks “Sunrise” and “Still Frozen” (the latter featuring recent tourmates hey, nothing) along with non-album cuts “Emmaline” and “Warning Song.” And given that those first two tracks have already been stripped down to acoustic guitars, Jade Long and Jessie Thompson reworked the other two bonus cuts as acoustic tracks for a recent “Neighborhoods” session filmed in a patch of greenery behind their producer Tommy Trautwein’s house in their hometown of Athens.
“Our producer Tommy’s backyard is remarkably serene, boasting a Japanese garden, mysterious statues, a winding path, and the Oconee River,” the duo shares. “It’s a place we often visit when we get bogged down recording and someone declares we need to ‘touch grass.’” Regarding the song selection they add: “We chose to play these songs because they’re just now seeing the light of day for the first time, even though we wrote them years ago. It’s been really wonderful to explore the intimate side of our music more with these additions.”
Check out the performance below, and catch the band on tour now through the end of April.
