Ed O’Brien, widely known for his work as the Radiohead guitarist who isn’t Jonny Greenwood, has announced his second solo album: Following 2020’s Earth (released as EOB), Blue Morpho will arrive on May 22 via Transgressive. Introducing the project, the shape-shifting and psychedelic title track moves through a number of modes, built around a knotty guitar melody and vocals that come in and out of the frame like a wraith. It sounds not unlike some mid-2010s Radiohead releases, if I do say so myself!

The album was inspired by the Kentucky poet and farmer Wendell Berry, particularly his quote: “To know the dark, go dark.” The album was made with Riley MacIntyre in Wales and at The Church Studios in London. Saxophonist and composer Shabaka Hutchings also contributed to the record.
