Otoe-Missouria/Keetoowah Cherokee indie-folk songwriter Sierra Spirit has announced that her new EP Rodeo Clown is set to be released via Giant Music on June 10. Alongside the news, Spirit has shared the title track and accompanying music video directed by Pierce Pyrzenski.
“‘Rodeo Clown’ is about loving and losing someone to addiction,” the songwriter shares. “Rates of addiction and depression run significantly higher in Native communities and it’s sadly a struggle we all see in our own lives with loved ones, friends and sometimes in ones self. My uncle Darren Kihega was a rodeo cowboy in his younger years—a bull rider. He was known for his sense of humor and his wit—but bit by bit we just watched him slip away. This track is about the journey of watching someone get back up and go down time and time again—we’re always rooting for them to get back up, but there comes a point when you realize you’ve done all you could do to help.”
