Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan will have their work covered by a variety of artists on a new compilation album arriving this spring via Ace Records. Where the Willow and the Dogwood Grow will feature Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, the late Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, and plenty of other artists taking on Waits’ discography post-1980, which had taken a more experimental direction after the artist met his wife and longtime songwriting collaborator on the set of Francis Ford Coppola’s film One From the Heart.
The album is is sequenced chronologically by song, beginning with Bruce Springsteen’s live recording of “Jersey Girl,” which was performed live with the E Street Band at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey in July of 1981. The album concludes with Joan Baez’s version of Waits and Brennan’s “Day After Tomorrow.”
