Last month, we first learned about EL VY—the intriguing musical union of Matt Berninger (The National) and Brent Knopf (Ramona Falls, Menomena). This morning, the indie-rock super duo released the second single from its upcoming full-length Return to the Moon, “I’m the Man to Be,” through a highly entertaining lyric video directed by Matt’s brother, Tom (Trouble Will Find Me).

About the slow-burning jam, Berninger said: “There’s this great Schoolboy Q song ‘There He Go’ which samples Menomena’s ‘Wet and Rusting.’ I thought it would be funny to re-sample the same sample and do it from the perspective of a pathetic self-aggrandizing rocker alone in a hotel room. Something I know a lot about. That’s how it started but then Brent took the sample out and we wrote an entirely new song.”

Follow Berninger and Knopf as they dance their way through Santa Monica and Venice, California, below.

Return to the Moon is out on October 30 via 4AD.
