Montreal trio knitting are gearing up to release their second album, Souvenir, this summer, and they’ve already dropped a couple of glistening bedroom-pop tunes from the collection. Second single “Here Comes” in particular coasts on a newfound sense of sonic maturity, with its sedated indie-rock sound reflecting its lyrics about the difficulties of coming of age. “Lyrically, the song plays around with the push and pull between trying to keep your head above water and wanting to give up on that and just have fun,” the band shares. “Above all, it’s about knowing the period of recklessness in your early twenties has an expiration date, and seeing just how long you can push it.”
knitting recently convened for a “Neighborhoods” session in the middle of their Quebecois hometown where they performed the single in a makeshift outdoor studio on a garage rooftop. “We filmed on the roof of a friend’s garage in the back alley behind their apartment in Villeray on what was one of the first nice days of the year in Montreal,” they explain of the setting. “We used their clothesline to hang some table cloths as a set dressing and so their neighbors wouldn’t have to be in the video!”
