Westside Cowboy have confirmed that their debut LP, It Goes On, will arrive on August 21 via Island Records. First single “Kick Stones (The Boys)” is out now, and comes alongside a music video shot in collaboration with FC United of Manchester, a team that was founded when Man U were sold to an American corporation. “They’re very community minded and they have a similar atmosphere to what we want to be,” said guitarist/vocalist Reuben Haycocks. “Their ethos is ‘making friends not millionaires.’”
Regarding “Kick Stones,” bassist/vocalist Aoife Anson O’Connell explained: “We loved the way it felt to play, but we thought we couldn’t record it like that or people would think we wanted to be a stadium rock band.” The band looked to a live recording of The Velvet Underground’s “What Goes On” for inspiration. “We always thought, if we can pull this off it could be really fun,” drummer Paddy Murphy added. “Taking this mad ‘70s rock thing but then having it played by a bunch of scrawny kids.”
It Goes On was produced by Loren Humphrey, who has recently worked with Geese and Cameron Winter, and was recorded at Greenmount Studios in Leeds. The collection follows the band’s So Much Country ’Til We Get There EP released back in January. Check out “Kick Stones (The Boys)” below, and pre-order It Goes On here.
