NYC’s Slow Fiction are on the verge of a new chapter, returning last month with a new single called “Junior Year” that also happened to mark the first chapter for their new label home, the newly minted indie Tight Knit. The jammy track highlights the fascinating paradox at the center of the band, which is that they specialize in breezy, dreamy power-pop as banged out by a five-person lineup that inevitably presents a denser sound than many of their peers, bringing acts like Wishy to mind.

The other exciting news at camp Slow Fiction is that the band was tapped to open a string of North American anniversary shows for Vundabar, who are celebrating 10 years of Gawk on the heels of its impossibly fun cut “Alien Blues” going viral on TikTok a few years back. Following a week of shows in May, they’ll hit the road again next week to commence touring the East Coast, culminating in a hometown show at Warsaw on June 19—you can find tickets and info on all of those dates (including a couple shows with Wet Leg) here.

In the meantime, the band was kind enough to document the first half of the tour in photos for us. Find dating advice, clues as to who does the best Chinese food in all of Amherst, Massachusetts, inter-band drama stirred up by Timmy Ho’s, and more below.

Good advice can be found anywhere, with those who have open eyes and hearts (a venue women’s bathroom, somewhere).

The gang goes to Niagara Falls—very alive and intact.

The first recorded person to survive going over the falls was school teacher Annie Edson Taylor, who in 1901 successfully completed the stunt inside an oak barrel.

This was taken after the last song of our set ended, and this is the last photo…how fitting. Also by Miles Kalchik, we love you legend.
