A year removed from their latest album, Almost Home, roots-rock outfit Ghost Hounds returned a few months ago with a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter”—featuring vocals from Chanel Haynes, who’s joined the Stones on their recent tours—as a benefit release supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. That single also featured the original song “Justified” as its A-side, a vigilante-justice ballad about living with one’s actions. “As you listen to the words of the song, you begin to realize that this man has become judge, jury, and executioner,” explains the band’s vocalist SAVNT. “Because of this, he is struggling with the finality of his actions.”

“Justified” is one of two tracks the band performed during a stop in Austin, when we caught up with them to record a “Neighborhoods” performance. Filmed by Brad Wagner at the Sagebrush honkey-tonk on the city’s south side, the set is closed out by a rendition of an Almost Home cut. “‘You’ll Never Find Me’ will always have a special place in my heart, and every time we play it, I am reminded of not only how far I have come as an artist but also all the things I still want to accomplish in the future,” notes SAVNT. “I wrote this song at a time when I needed to remind myself of my own strength, and now it has morphed into this anthemic powerhouse of a song I always knew it could be.”

Check out the band’s performance of both tracks below.
