While Danny Elfman’s masterpiece is quite inarguably the score for Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (or maybe the Simpsons theme song), The Nightmare Before Christmas is up there as well, possibly earning a few bonus points given that the former Oingo Boingo frontman actually sang the musical parts of Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon did the speaking roles).
To celebrate the legacy and twenty-second anniversary of the film, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles is putting on a special Halloween performance of the film, with live renditions of the songs by Elfman himself, and featuring conducting from the founding director of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra John Mauceri. Special guests are also expected (fingers crossed for Fiona Apple).
