Villanelle’s frontman Gene Gallagher may look like his father, but there’s very little of Oasis’ musical legacy to be heard within the Manchester group’s recently released debut EP Measly Means, which feels less indebted to Britpop than it does to the current American pop-hardcore and grunge scenes. It’s no wonder the setlist they compiled for their “Hacked” takeover features tunes by bands like Turnstile, Militarie Gun, and Title Fight.
Before taking the stage this weekend at Lollapalooza—after making their San Francisco debut at Popscene on Wednesday—Villanelle will be taking over the FLOOD FM airwaves all week with a block of music that additionally includes such diverse musical figures as The Beatles, Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Larry June, and The National.
