Mike Patton’s supergroup Tomahawk is in the midst of its first tour in 13 years, sharing the bill with longtime cohorts the Melvins. Between the two bands, the players on this run are a who’s-who of punk, indie, and sludge-metal history. Patton first formed Tomahawk with The Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison in 1999, later recruiting Helmet’s John Stanier and Mr. Bungle bandmate Trevor Dunn. The Melvins’ storied history could fill a volume all its own, with Buzz Osborne leading the legendary outfit alongside current members Steven McDonald (Redd Kross), Coady Willis (High on Fire), and longtime drummer Dale Crover. The careers of these musicians have intertwined for decades, making this pairing feel especially fitting.
