Not only did MT Jones release his debut album, Joy, earlier this year, but the British soul songwriter also dropped a three-song EP titled Sofa Sessions: Live at Maida Vale Studios, which saw him reinterpret two of the album’s tracks (“Gentle Reminder” and “Why I Cry”) as live studio versions alongside a cover of Olivia Dean’s “So Easy (to Fall in Love).” It’s these two album cuts that he further reconfigures as solo guitar cuts for his “Neighborhoods” sessions, which he recently filmed for us in the midst of an East Coast headlining tour during a stop in NYC.
Set up in a backyard in Bed-Stuy, Jones gives passionate vocal performances on both songs as he’s accompanied only by the sound of his guitar. “I filmed the session in a back garden right off Chouncey St. in Brooklyn,” he explains of the location. “I stayed there for 10 days in between my recent shows on the East Coast and writing sessions. It’s such a beautiful place and spot that’ll stay with me for a long time.”
