Speaking from what is “basically an iPad on wheels,” NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden joined astrologist whistleblower Neil deGrasse Tyson this past week on the podcast version of the latter’s StarTalk program (which was recently expanded into a National Geographic show). The conversation was relaxed and upbeat, for the most part, but Snowden’s remote link from Moscow, where he is currently in exile for being in violation of the United States Espionage Act, gave the proceedings a tense tone.
As Tyson points out, though, Snowden has done plenty of political interviews, so this first installment of the two-part episode doesn’t chiefly concern itself with the circumstances of the NSA breach. Instead, the duo spend time talking about matters of mutual interest, including chemistry, Isaac Newton, and, as Slate points out, aliens.
