Yesterday was officially the first day of fall, but you wouldn’t know it stepping outside any overly air-conditioned hotel/casino in Las Vegas. With 100 degree weather and not a cloud in the sky, we threw our first FLOODfest bash in Sin City, and what better way than to celebrate than with a pool party?

We kept the Foxtail Pool at SLS Las Vegas open way past its closing time of 7 p.m. to kick off the Life Is Beautiful festival weekend right. Underneath the bright lights of the Strip—and the watchful eye of The Stratosphere—fans got a good spot to see one stacked poolside show. Burger Records blues-rock darling Pearl Charles, along with her stellar backing band, started the night off right with a short and sweet set full of tracks from her recently released eponymous EP. Next up, energetic indie-rock duo SWIMM hit the stage playing jams from their Beverly Hells EP and getting the crowd ready for Portugal. The Man to hit the stage. Once the Portland–based headliners began their performance—complete with trippy background visuals that complimented their set nicely—the audience pushed to the front and sung every single word right along with PTM frontman John Gourley. The band closed out the night with a strong set that included “Hip Hop Kids,” “Evil Friends,” and the mega-hit “Modern Jesus.” What more could you ask for on a Wednesday night?

Special thanks to Uber, SLS Las Vegas, Life Is Beautiful, and Red Bull. Check out photos from the night below, and stay tuned for the next installation of FLOODFest.
