Michael Kiwanuka has announced that his fifth LP, Fudge, is set to arrive on October 23 via Polydor Records. The self-produced album was recorded by Kiwanuka and his live band in Southampton, England. The project was in limbo, though, as Kiwanuka recovered from a stroke, an update he shared with fans on social media yesterday. In the note, he revealed that he experienced a significant brain injury and has a long journey of rehab ahead of him. We wish him the best as he continues to recover.
Regarding the creation of the album, which emerged from a jam session that yielded the seven-minute track “Love in My Heart,” Kiwanuka shared: “It felt moving to me. I wanted to share it with other people. That was the eureka moment. It sounds like we’re in Capitol Studios on Vine Street, but we’re actually huddled in this shack outside Southampton.”
